Bring the Kids

2-Day Itinerary

From toddlers to teenagers, Greene County offers family fun for everyone. If you have two days to spend, think about starting your adventures at Bailiwick Ranch & Discovery Zoo off Route 32 in Catskill. There's a zoological park where families can get up close and personal with exotic and farm animals, including a petting and feeding area. The ranch offers horseback riding on scenic mountain trails, along with pony rides for the younger set. For hard-to-please teenagers, there's a paintball park with masks, suits and guns provided.

In the afternoon, drive up Route 23A toward Hunter. If your family is active, hike to the base of Kaaterskill Falls, the highest cascading waterfall in New York State. For 360-degree views of Catskill high peaks, families can ride the Hunter Mountain Skyride during the summer and fall and hike two miles up to the fire tower at the summit. If you still aren't ready to call it quits, a perfect ending to the day is a stop at Bear Creek Restaurant and Recreational Park at the intersection of Route 23A and Route 214. There's Myrtle Beach-style mini golf, a driving range, family-friendly restaurant and much more.

On day two, head to Zoom Flume Waterpark on Route 145 in East Durham. Body slide rides, wild and lazy rivers and water attractions ranging from "The Black Vortex" to "Water Wars" will keep kids of all ages happy for hours. Grab a bite to eat at the Country Place Restaurant or one of the snack bars on premises. Those with a "need for speed" can check out the Supersonic Speedway just down the road in East Durham where there are go-karts, mini golf, batting cages, a shooting gallery, kiddy ride park and more. For good old-fashioned fun that evening, load the kids in the car for a relaxing night of movies at the Greenville Drive-In on Route 32.

Countless summer resorts in Greene County cater to families with large pools and many kid-friendly activities. Pollace's, for example, offers mini golf, pony rides, hayrides, train and trolley rides, craft classes and every game imaginable. Villa Vosilla. Gavin's Golden Hill Resort, Sunny Hill and Wolff's Maple Breeze Resort are just a few others that offer special children's programs and activities in the old-school tradition that allows parents to relax while their kids are kept busy.

Greene County is also home to two first-class winter resorts – Hunter Mountain Ski Bowl and Windham Mountain – that offer a variety of terrain for skiing and snowboarding. Both offer snowtubing to keep everyone giggling and Windham has a brand new ice skating rink with lights for night use.
