The Schoharie Creek Players was established in 1997 to create a community based theatre company dedicated to presenting classics of world theatre. It is the mission of SCP to involve, inspire and educated both adults and youngsters in the rural Catskill community in Greene County, New York, by providing enriching performing arts experiences.
SCP fulfills its mission by continuing to offer classic comedies, dramas, and musicals on the Mountaintop at various locations including the Mountain Theatre at the Lexington Center for the arts, Windham Ashland Jewett School, the Windham Civic Center; the Catskill Mountain Foundation Doctorow Center; and in the Fall of 2010 at the New Orpheum Theatre in Tannnersville. the quality of the shows is always consistent because of the commitment to hire professional artists as directors, designers and instructors. SCP has collaborated with other arts organizations in order to produce original performances for adults, as well as young people. Such collaborations have included the Windham Artists Alliance, the Catskills' Dance Theatre, the Catskill Mountain Foundation, Art Awareness, Ensemble Studio Theatre, and the Greene Room Players.
